Message Boards

I've set up a message board for this site, thought maybe that might encourage a little more interaction from the people that I KNOW are visiting! You don't need to register to read it, but will need to in order to post. Please come say hi, I really feel strange talking to myself...

Where is everyone?!

Trawling the web for support i'm finding that it's few and far between when it comes to the family and friends of those who have mental illnesses, both online and in my local community. It seems at least in this country unless you live in a major city, it's just not there. There are plenty of support sites for those WITH the illness, and most do have a sub board for family and friends, but it's sporadic at best. I find it frustrating that while the support is there, its very hard to find and doesn't really help much. Finding information helps, as does counselling with a therapist, counsellor or psychiatrist. But TALKING with others who love and care for someone else is by far the most beneficial, well at least for me anyway. I know that there are people coming to this site. If you yourself have a mental illness, ask those around you what support network they have, show them this site and ask them to drop me an email or leave a comment...I'm still looking for resources, but ultimately I would like this place to be driven by a community of people helping people. If you are a family member of friend or partner of someone who's been diagnosed, then PLEASE, i'm begging you, get in touch! I'm dying here and seeing just how many people there are in the world with a mental illness, and there is at LEAST one person to love and care for each of them, I KNOW i'm not alone. I KNOW i'm not the only person on this planet to feel the frustration, the helplessness, the anger! So let me know who you are and let's HELP EACH OTHER!!

Family & Friends Chat times

I have noticed a few people have come into the Family and Friends room, only to find it empty! Please note that I am in Australia and this is a NEW place so it will take some time to develop a network of people. If you would like to chat, please just leave a comment (or send an email) stating what times/days you are free for chat and most importantly, your TIMEZONE! I am on GMT +10 hours. For those of you who are in Australia, I am generally around during school hours, and then again later in the evening after 8.30pm or so.

Thanks for dropping by, please get in touch so we can help each other. And remember:

YOU ARE NOT ALONE

Welcome

Welcome to Depression Chat. This is a place for people living with depression, both those who have been diagnosed, and those who love and care for them.

Please stay tuned as two seperate chat rooms are set up and helpful links are added to this site. Feel free to leave a comment if you wish to be involved in anyway. At this stage we are looking for administrators of the rooms as well as personal blogs from both sides of the story.

This site will not be offering any professional or medical advice, but hopefully will become a place where people can gather, share experiences and offer support and understanding to each other.
